Tips for eating 'on the go' this Summer!
Claudia Gonzalez, is a registered dietician and mother of 3 (ages 10-16). She is the author of Gordito Doesn't Mean Healthy: What Every Latina Mother Needs to Know to Raise Happy, Healthy Kids.
With summer travel season approaching, families will be hitting the road for a fun-filled exciting weekend together. While traveling, it is important for moms to keep their youngest travelers happy and healthy. Claudia Gonzalez, mom dietician, has a few easy tips to keep even the crankiest passengers content.
- Pack A Ton of Healthy Treats — Always have a stash of cut up veggies, fruit, and string cheese or individual applesauce containers ready on a long ride!
- Get Active — After a long car ride, everyone needs some activity. If you can, try to bring bikes with you and your family for the long weekend. Claudia always packs a Frisbee, which is small, portable and can be played anywhere.
- Use Your Mind - Claudia always brings small surprises to give her kids in the car. A favorite is small compasses, so kids can track their route. Claudia also likes playing 21 Questions, which keeps the whole family occupied.
- Fast Food May Not Be What You Think! — Stopping for a meal on the road is inevitable, but that doesn't mean it has to be a worry for you! Kids are always thrilled when the family stops at McDonald's® and they get a Happy Meal® with Chicken McNuggets®, Apple Dippers, 1% jug of milk and of course a toy. Little do they know, what they are eating has less calories and fat than the favorite below*:
Claudia emphasizes that stopping at McDonald's® is a great alternative while traveling this summer.
Moms can also enjoy McDonald's® Premium Salads including the new Southwest Salad, Asian Salad, Bacon Ranch Salad, and Caesar Salad.
